My Oona Flight Delay Insurance Experience: When the Lounge Voucher Didn’t Arrive

By The Wandering Leaf

I bought flight delay insurance hoping it would make an unexpected airport wait a little more comfortable. When my flight was delayed, however, the lounge voucher I expected didn’t arrive while I needed it.

There was eventually a helpful resolution—and a chance to use a replacement voucher before another journey. But the experience taught me that resolving a concern afterward and receiving assistance during a delay are two different things.

My delayed flight from Davao to Cebu

My Cebu Pacific flight, 5J 594 from Davao to Cebu, was scheduled to depart at 11:35 p.m. on March 6, 2026. It eventually departed at approximately 1 a.m. the following morning, making the delay roughly one hour and 25 minutes.

I had purchased Oona Flight Delay Insurance directly through Oona’s website for ₱149 plus tax.

The lounge-access benefit was the reason I bought it. With a delay exceeding an hour, I expected a voucher notification. Unfortunately, none reached me during the wait.

Trying to get help during the delay

At approximately 12:47 a.m. on March 7, I emailed Oona’s customer service team to ask about the missing voucher. I followed up again at approximately 1:27 a.m.

I received no response at those times.

That was the disappointing part: the benefit I wanted was somewhere more comfortable to wait during the disruption itself. Following up afterward could address the complaint, but it couldn’t change that overnight experience.

How customer service handled my concern

After further correspondence, Oona’s assistance partner responded on March 9. They apologized and said they understood that the original voucher had arrived late and could not be used.

They offered to coordinate a complimentary replacement voucher, describing the proposed validity as six months. They requested my passenger count and policy number to proceed.

Overall, I recall the resolution taking approximately three to four days.

I appreciated their willingness to help. In my reply, I also explained why I remained disappointed: timely voucher delivery was the main reason I had purchased the insurance. I asked them to review both voucher issuance and customer-service responsiveness during delays.

The replacement was a resolution offered in my particular case; readers should not assume the same arrangement will apply to every situation.

Using the voucher before my Singapore flight

I eventually used the replacement voucher at Plaza Premium Lounge in Mactan-Cebu International Airport, before a later flight to Singapore.

The photo accompanying this article shows a drink in hand with the airport apron beyond the window—a much more relaxed moment before the next journey.

I was glad I could use the voucher rather than lose the benefit entirely. Still, that later lounge visit was separate from the delayed Davao-to-Cebu flight that prompted my complaint.

What Oona currently advertises

At the time of checking, Oona’s website lists Flight Delay Insurance at ₱149, covering up to four registered flights, with lounge access for qualifying delays of at least 60 minutes. Its advertised process is to email the voucher automatically once a qualifying delay is confirmed.

These are the current advertised details, rather than a reproduction of my original policy. Check the applicable policy terms, registered flights, participating lounges, and final checkout amount before purchasing.

What to do if your lounge voucher is missing

Oona’s published guidance is to check your email’s spam or junk folder, then contact customer support if the voucher is still missing.

Its flight-delay product page currently lists:

These contact details do not establish that immediate overnight assistance is available.

Based on my experience, I would also keep the following ready when contacting support:

  • Your policy number and registered passenger details.

  • Flight number, route, and scheduled departure date and time.

  • Airline delay notifications or screenshots, if available.

  • A record of when you contacted support and whether a voucher arrived.

Ask support to confirm any replacement voucher’s expiry, participating lounges, and conditions before planning to use it.

My takeaway

My experience had both a disappointing start and a helpful follow-up.

The automatic lounge-access process did not deliver the benefit during my original delay. Customer service later helped resolve my concern, and I was able to use a replacement voucher before another flight.

For me, the lesson is to understand the benefit, keep the relevant records, and follow up when something doesn’t work as expected. A later resolution can be appreciated while still acknowledging what went wrong at the time.
